Leaked: New Ford Raptor Is Coming in 2021 with Hybrid Power? Here Is Everything We Know

The new 2021 Ford F-150 is coming later this year, but will the redesign immediately include the next generation Raptor? A recent leak of Ford’s VIN decoding information reveals that a 2021 model year will include a Ford crew cab Raptor model. It also reveals that this new Raptor may have gas/electric hybrid powertrain. This is unofficial and has not been confirmed by Ford.

Below is the VIN decoding chart that shows all the details. The chart lists six powertrain options for the upcoming 2021 Ford F-150 lineup.

  • 3.3-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 290 horsepower
  • 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 with 325 horsepower
  • 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 with 375 horsepower
  • 5.0-liter V8 with 395 horsepower
  • 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 with TBD horsepower
  • NEW 3.5L HEV V6 Hybrid with TBD horsepower

Note that there is no mention of a 3.5-liter twin-turbo High Output V6 that is currently offered in the Ford Raptor and F-150 Limited trucks. Could it mean that the 3rd-generation 2021 Raptor will be using a hybrid powertrain? It makes sense for several reasons. Such power-plant would offer increased power, driving range, and will cost a premium. It makes sense to offer it in a top-of-a-line truck like the Raptor.

Ford Raptor Hybrid Specs?

We do not know what kind of power to expect from such a 3.5-liter turbo V6 plug-in hybrid, but we could make an educated guess. The new 2020 Lincoln Aviator Touring has a 3.0-liter turbo V6 plug-in hybrid with 494 hp @ 5,500 rpm and 630 lb-ft of torque @ 2,250 rpm. The new Ford Raptor power plant could make at least this amount of power. This would be a significant increase over the current 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque in the current Raptor.

Naturally, the next-generation Raptor will have to compete against other new trucks such as the Ram Rebel TRX that may produce at 550 – 707 horsepower (this is also unofficial).

Some other great news in this leaked information include the continuation of the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 in the 2021 Ford F-150. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 engines are said to continue as well.
