With a few trucks sitting around some with aftermarket parts and some all stock,  I thought I would do some real world temperature testing.  Pretty simple testing really.

Two 5 Star Trucks , white one 2015 F150 3.5L EB 4×4 with 3.55 gears and 33 inch tires, supercab config with 6 1/2 bed.  This white truck is all stock expect the 93 perf/tow tune that it runs on a daily basis.  The silver truck 2016 F150 3.5L EB 4×4 with 3.73 gears and 33 inch tires , supercab conf with 8 foot bed, also running the 93 perf/tow tune on a daily basis. However, this truck has an S&B intake and AFE intercooler and AFE’s charge pipe.

Testing starts off with logging through the OBDii port with each truck having an X4 device to log.

Ambient temps this morning have been in the 40’s F so a great morning to test some thing.  The test loop is a 8 mile loop and and the end of the loop enough highway to do two back to back 0-100 mph runs recording max temps with each trucks x4 devices.

RESULTS BELOW:

White truck all stock except 93 perf/tow tune at the end of 2 back to back 0-100 mph runs max temps seen are:

Charge Air Temp (Post Intercooler)  84.67 F

Intake Temps (sensor on top of manifold) 100.39 F

Ambient Temps 46.39 F

 

Silver truck with 93 perf/tow tune , S&B Intake and AFEs intercooler and charge pipe. These 2 runs back to back 0-100 mph runs max temps seen are:

Charge Air Temp (Post Intercooler)  81.33 F

Intake Temps (sensor on top of manifold) 80.90 F

Ambient Temps 46.39 F

You can see the intake temps have reduced a good 20F that is power in the real world you can use towing and or hauling the mail.  I will also point out that at normal steady state the intake temps on the silver truck are about 8-10 F less than the white truck which is all stock. I also want to point out that the intercooler grill shutters are unplugged and are always in the open position. aka they will never close this is how i run my trucks to get maximum intake cooling , what ever air comes into the intercooler is ambient air.
