What’s Your Favorite Ford 7.3L Truck? We Compare One of The Oldest 7.3L Ford Trucks to The Newest! (Video)

Which Ford 7.3-liter engine is your most favorite? On this episode, we compare a 1989 F-350 7.3-liter IDI diesel V8 against the new 7.3-liter gas V8 in a 2020 Ford F-250.

Throughout the years, Ford has developed several 7.3-liter V8 engines for its heavy duty trucks. From the naturally-aspirated IDI diesel used in collaboration with International Harvester, to the first-generation 7.3-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8, and the current 7.3-liter gas V8. We compare one of the oldest and the newest trucks side by side.

This 1989 vs 2020 truck comparison makes it obvious how heavy duty trucks have evolved over the last three decades. In 1989, it was highly uncommon to see a pickup truck with four doors (a crew cab). Now, the crew cab configuration is by far the most popular truck in the country.

The 1989 truck is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. The manual is completely gone from the current F-series truck lineup. This includes the F-150 and the Super Duty trucks.

Check out the video as Nathan and I closely compare the features on each truck and the engines that power them.
