What MPG Can the New Supercharged Ford Super Duty Get? You Asked, Here It Is!

We recently published a full real-world performance review of the first new Ford Super Duty with a supercharged 7.3L gas V8. It’s the blue truck you see here. It’s a new F-250 crew cab 4×4. The Procharger supercharger and custom programming from 5 Star Tuning give the truck huge power gains! We saw dyno gains of +223 horsepower and + 187 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.

This blown power translates to fairly crazy acceleration times. If you have not watched the video, you should check out the tachometer and speedometer as I clocked a 5.23-sec 0-60 MPH acceleration in this heavy duty truck. At the time, this particular truck had stock wheels, tires, and exhaust system. The modified air intake and the supercharger provides the extra speed. We also measured a 0-60 MPH with a 15,000 lbs trailer behind the truck!

Many of you asked us about the fuel economy for such a supercharged heavy-duty truck. We have an answer. Josh, the owner of the truck, put beefy 35-inch mud-terrain tires on the truck, hooked up a very large 10,000 lbs box trailer, and towed the trailer nearly 368 miles. As you can see on the trip meter, Josh did mostly highway driving on this trip and averaged about 61.3 MPH. He is using a mixture of 91 and 93-octane for this trip with a 5 Star customized octane towing tune. This truck is equipped with a 3.55 rear axle ratio, although the slightly larger than stock tires change the overall ratio slightly. The highway towing results is 8.8 MPG according to the truck’s computer. Is this good or bad?

This is actually a respectable result. TFLtruck has done heavier trailer MPG tests with the new heavy duty trucks. We did a highway towing test with a stock F-250 towing a 14,700 lbs trailer and got 5.6 MPG. A Chevy Silverado 2500 HD did 6.9 MPG with a similar heavy trailer on the same loop.

We also tested a stock 2017 Ford F-250 6.7L turbo-diesel V8 on a highway MPG loop with a 12,500 lbs trailer with a results of just about 10 MPG. The 8.8 MPG result for a supercharged gas V8 with a heavy trailer is a very respectable result.
